Garwin is the American tactician who developed the theory of answer against attack in case of nuclear aggression from Russia. At that time some peoples were seriously thinking about letting computers decide to launch the nuclear riposte.
Hopefully this has never happened.
You cannot trust computers and especially softwares to care your important data.
By the way their are methods and well-known solutions to performs tasks in the right way. Even if most of peoples are using the system made by a company in Redmond, this one is far from being the best. We even can reasonably say that it's the worst. For years this company has bought his competitors not really to improve the software environment they were providing but just to kill the competition. It's a culture in this company and we can't expect them to change. They are at the service of their business not at your service. That's a fact.
It exists another computer culture in which business competition is not always the main point. In that culture, peoples are competing to provide the smartest and most reliable solution. They're not closing their code because they want also let others improve it when they have the capability to do it. Linux which is a system kernel is among them. The core of that system is without bugs. Some servers have been running during 5 years at never restarting. You need a firewall or a mail server ? You have an old 486 somewhere ? No need to buy a new computer, your old computer will do the job in a corner of your office.
